When you put everything in a row you not only waste space, communicating linear thinking but also saying something about your relationship with control. Keeping in mind this is only my opinion regarding small scale garden projects. Large scale farmers need rows because of their tractors and other machines to help farm the crops. As the veggies & herbs grow I imagine myself in the spaces between them as a little fairy or person being surrounded by shelter, food and comfort. I know its a little weird but when you have a garden the emotional connection is different to your food, the feeling of being responsible for tending to something that is living has a profound affect on my daily mind state and every time I walk past my garden. ;-)
