Our solutions: add bird netting or some sort of cover and get more chickens hopefully older and hope they don't kill each other dominating the pecking order.

The chickens saga...
We are down to only 4 out the 7 chickens that we started with. They were 5 weeks old two of them were/are plymouth black rock and five of them are/were orpingtons. We don't the entire area covered and so we think a hawk is swooping down and grabbing them.
Planting & Sowing

We decided to begin some greens as starters and sprouts salad greens from seed.
Starters: Flowering Kale (Purple), Flowering Kale (Green), Cabbage (Red), Curly Parsley, Violas/Johnny Jump Ups
Seeds: Spinach, Lettuce (Bib), Lettuce (Romaine), Turnips and Radishes
We plan on getting a new herb from the Farmers Market when we get there.

Chickens!

Along with the garden we are building a coup and fenced area for some chickens. It feels crazy that I went from Detroit Metro to working on a farm in Washington State then to sunny Encinitas where I actually have the opportunity to grab eggs from my backyard. My head is spinning with unknowing however, anxious to take on the responsibility to grow, raise my own food. SOOOO strange, my Mom would have never guessed when I was growing up, I'm sure!
